Good News, Thankyajesus!

tell yo muthafunkin’ friends

That’s right. The DVD and CD are done. Done! Whoooooo!

It’s been an absolutely insane two weeks finishing mixes, masters, and video edits, but the full package is going out in the mail TODAY to be replicated in nice, shiny little jewel cases. Don’t know anything about it? Then I’m fi’nda edumacate you below.

THE PHILLY DILLY – After 3 studio records on a tiny little label that we love dearly (SiTMoM Records), the super-awesome Philly-based purveyors of aural sickness at Ropeadope Records asked us to be a part of their family. We gladly accepted. Things have been so damn fun on tour recently that I decided a live album and accompanying DVD would be the best representation of the group and where the music has gone over the last year or so. And because I can’t stand how most live records sound, it just made sense to do it in a recording studio. Actually, the coolest recording studio I can possibly imagine. In the coolest place I could possibly imagine- Maurice, Louisiana. Okay… maybe Maurice isn’t the coolest town on earth, but it is (a) right in the middle of the swamp, (b) absolutely gorgeous (at least the studio grounds are), and (c) home to both Jim’s Country Pies and Hebert’s Stuffed Turkeys, perpetuators of 2009’s two finest culinary experiences.

Long story short, we invited 60 of our favorite fans/friends from across North America to join us inside of the tracking room at Dockside Studio for the recording. We played two sets, ate an incredible dinner with all the guests (thanks to Louisiana master chef Devin Freeman), and had a generally amazing time. Folks came out all the way from Tennessee, Washington, Texas, New Orleans, New York, Arizona, Mississippi, Alabama, and even Quebec to be a part of it. Its was rad.

We kept the original takes in their entirety, overdub free and full of wonderful little flaws. It’s going to be released as a double-disk package. The CD has my 6 favorite tracks on it, and the DVD has 2 additional bonus tracks as well as interview footage of myself trying to form complete sentences. Evidently, it’s pretty hard for me. The mastermind behind the film is the wonderful Andy LaViolette of Mr. Magic Carpet Ride Productions, the coolest dude on earth. He and his two cohorts Brad and Lorraine shot the whole circus in glorious HD.

The audio album doesn’t officially drop on Ropeadope (digitally) until mid-April, but we’ll have the physical CD/DVD package for sale at all of our March and April shows. Tour dates are posted on our myspace, and also to the right —->.

I’ll be posting little clips from the DVD this week. Stay up with us on the new Pup page. From now on, this is how we do.
